Senior nursing student, Steve Ackerson who will be graduating on December 16, 2017 was named Blugold of the Month.
Student Services Coordinator, Marcia St. Germaine and Professor Shelley-Rae Pehler nominated Steve. Mr. Josh Engle presented the award, stating "Steve is a non-traditional student earning his 2nd degree from UW-Eau Claire. He graduated with honors with a B.S. in Biology and a Kinesiology minor. Steve has maintained a 3.71 GPA in his nursing degree while juggling work, family, and school activities. Outside of school, Steve has a family and works as a CNA.
During his time in the College of Nursing, Steve has participated in the Student Nurse Ambassador Program. When observed in the halls during the tours, many have mentioned his positive attitude and glowing report of UW- Eau Claire while sharing his experiences here. Through this same program, Steve has also volunteered to assist with the Nursing Convocation ceremonies.
Steve extends himself and makes himself available to all learning activities including a clinical immersion trip to the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota for 8 days during the semester. Steve is often seen in our Learning Resource Center (LRC) and Skills Lab working with his fellow students. And, this Fall, Steve agreed to participate in a Faculty/Student research project, despite this being his last semester before he graduates.
Steve always has a positive attitude, always has a smile and a wave from down the hall, and exudes a calming presence in any situation. He is a pleasure to work with and he definitely deserves to be Blugold of the Month."
Steve was awarded a $100 gift card to the bookstore and a meal for him and 3 of his friends at Dulany.
