User experience designer to speak to students

| Gretchen Hutterli

Rothanak Chhoun, lead user experience designer (UXD) and information architect at 3M Design, will discuss user experience design in Dr. Jean Pratt’s Systems Analysis and Design (IS 310) class on Friday, October 20 from 9-9:50 am in Centennial 1917. He is also available to chat with students interested in learning more about UX or 3M from 10 – 11:30 am in Schneider 436. Students are welcome to attend either session.

Chhoun works with cross-functional teams to create user-centered designs in support of programs across the 3M Health Care Business Group. As an UXD, he aligns user needs and experiences with the business needs and goals of the client. This involves understanding the client's customers/user-base, having empathy for their experiences through data-driven assessments, and using that information to create a blueprint that fuses design and development into a seamless process for the end-user.

Chhoun is also president of the Twin Cities chapter of the Interaction Design Foundation, an independent nonprofit initiative that produces open content and open access educational materials in the fields of interactive design, computer science, user experience, information architecture, and design.

He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design and new art media from the University of North Dakota.
