Bobby Valiska, sophomore information systems major from New Lenox, IL, was the recipient of the 2020 Residence Hall Leadership Award.
Valiska has been involved in the Residence Hall Association for the past two years and most recently served as the Activities and Program Chair. He has been involved in hosting and assisting with numerous programs and activities for the residence halls.
In March, students were required to move out of the residence halls, and classes were moved online due to COVID-19. RHA had to reevaluate how to deliver programs and activities which meant offering online programming. Valiska hosted virtual programs through RHA and gave the residents something to do during the quarantine.
"This means a lot to me because it gave me recognition for my hard work this past year," says Valiska said of receiving the award.
The Residence Hall Leadership Award recognizes a current residence hall student who has made a positive contribution to the residence hall community. Nominees demonstrate leadership skills and exemplary service, and have contributed to residence hall organizations. Nominees must be in good academic standing and be registered for both semesters of the current academic year.
The Residence Hall Leadership Award is sponsored by an anonymous donor.
