Leadership is the theme of the conference hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student chapter of the Financial Management Association.
On Tuesday, October 16th, the Financial Management Association hosted their second annual Leaders in Business Forum. Over 100 UW-Eau Claire students gathered together to learn how to become a leader in business. This was a night that consisted of influential people that held positions like owners of companies, corporate presidents, bankers, financial analysts, advisors, planners and much more.
The agenda was composed of a welcome from the College of Business Dean: Dr. Doran Brewer, an overview of FMA from the President: Kyle Kolb, two keynote speakers, and 13 other business professionals that led roundtable discussions. The roundtable discussions allowed students to have more one-on-one conversations with successful industry professionals.
The first keynote speaker was Wendy Althen: Vice President - Private Client Advisor with JP Morgan & Chase and UW-Eau Claire Alum. Wendy spoke about her career path, the importance of diversity and inclusion, and how lucky the students are to be growing up in today’s world.
The second keynote speaker was John Collopy: CEO/Founder of RE/MAX Results and writer of the Amazon Best Seller; "The Reward of Knowing". John spoke about “Owning who you are and building the life you want, improving yourself to improve your business, and John’s life story: the philosophy that rescued him from his lowest moments”. John also donated several of his books to the students that attended the forum.
This night was a perfect demonstration of the motivation that the students of UW-Eau Claire possess and the determination to be successful business leaders.
