19th Annual National Collegiate Sales Competition, Mar. 31-Apr. 3, Kennesaw, GA
The 19th National Collegiate Sales Competition was held March 31-April 3 at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA. Competing for UW-Eau Claire was Meagan Brown and Jenna Slaughter. Slaughter took first place in her room in round one thus making it into the quarter finals. Brown took third in her room for both the first round and wildcard round role plays.
Also attending the competition from UW-Eau Claire were Josie Dickerson and Carter Koleske, who attended as alternates and student coaches, and faculty coaches Dr. Bob Erffmeyer and Jessica Gardner, Department of Management & Marketing.
39th Annual American Marketing Association International Collegiate Conference, Mar. 16-18. New Orleans, LA
For the second year in a row, the UW-Eau Claire AMA chapter was named the Top International Collegiate Chapter. The Blugold case team consisting of Cooper VandeWalle, Haley Rockweiler, and Austin Samsa, finished 3rd in the eBay case competition. The UW-Eau Claire team was one of nine teams out of a field of over 100 universities to make the final cut. Other finalists were Capilano University (British Columbia), CUNY College of Staten Island (NY), Ferris State University (MI), North Central College (IL), Temple University (PA), Texas State U (TX), University of Nevada - Las Vegas (NV), and University of Pennsylvania (PA).
UW-Eau Claire senior Keith Kubitschek placed 2nd in the ABC Supply Co., Inc. International Sales Competition. Megan Koenig and Chas Lehman were semi finalists in the Tek Systems Sales Call and Aerotek Perfect Pitch Competition respectively.
Dr. Scott Swanson, Department of Management & Marketing, was presented with the "Best Paper of the Conference" award for his paper, “Perceptions of Marketing: A View from the Aisle.”
Wisconsin HR Games, Mar. 3-4, Janesville, WI
The UW-Eau Claire SHRM team consisting of Alana Sundby, Hannah Knutson and Morgan Tabalske took third place in the Wisconsin HR Games, which was held in conjunction with the 2017 WI SHRM conference. The Blugold team competed against 22 teams, including two teams from UW-Eau Claire. Also competing for UW-Eau Claire were Alexi Smith, Emily Rohn, Bailey Bradner and Nicole Neumann. Michelle Purdun and Annika Ekblad participated as volunteers. Dr. Scott Lester is the faculty adviser for the UW-Eau Claire SHRM chapter.
AITP T3, Mar. 4, UW-Eau Claire
Six teams competed in the annual IT case competition, which was held in conjunction with the AITP T3 Conference. The UW-Eau Claire team, The Cheeseheads, captured first place. Second place went to the Blugold team Bit by Bit, with Winona State University's Winona Entrepreneurs taking 3rd. Other teams competing for UW-Eau Claire were Gemilang, The IT Crowd and The Tech Republic.

University of Toledo Invitation Sales Competition, Feb. 23–25, Toledo, OH
The UW-Eau Claire Sales Team finished in 4th place at the University of Toledo Sales Competition. Thirty universities attended the event. UW-Eau Claire Brock Offerdahl placed 6th, and Cullen Johnson clinched 9th place in the semi-finals. The Blugold team was coached by Jessica Gardner, Department of Management and Marketing. Student coaches were Austin Samsa and Katie Dietlin.
WI Collegiate DECA State Conference, Feb. 23-25, Delavan, WI
UW-Eau Claire students competed for awards and the honor of competing at the 2017 Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference, April 26-29 in Anaheim, CA. UWEC Collegiate DECA members also participated in the Management Institute, a new event where students worked in teams of five, with team members coming from different campuses around the state. The Blugold Chapter had a strong showing, with the following students receiving recognition: 1st Place: Allison Secord, Kayla Fisher, Ellie Ottoson, Alec Sommer; 2nd Place: Jacob Bauer, Shannon Draeger; 3rd Place: Nate Ylinen, Cassidy Sepnieski, Avery Anderson, Megan Israel.
The faculty advisor for the UW-Eau Claire Collegiate DECA chapter is Emily Elsner Twesme, Business Communication.
23rd Annual APICS Great Lakes District Student Case Competition, Feb. 17–18, Downers Grove, IL
Three UW-Eau Claire teams competed against 24 teams from across the Midwest for prizes and the chance to advance to the National APICS Case Competition. Loyola University finished 1st with UW-Eau Claire Team A placing 2nd, and UW-Eau Claire Team B taking 3rd. UW-Eau Claire Team C finished 11th. UW-Eau Claire Team A also won the Highest Scoring Case Presentation award. The Blugold APICS chapter received $2,530 in winnings for their efforts.
Members of the APICS teams are as follows: Team A: Blake Amborn, Raj Borade, Brady Holt, Justin Wilcox, and Laura Emory (alternate); Team B: Marcus Bugni, Sarah Fuechtmann, Jacob Lawniczak, Rachel Martell, and Jack Hegge (alternate); and Team C: Eric Bauer, Grant Hulke, Jennifer Hoyord, Ola Mustapha, and Dan Burger (alternate). The 2017 AMA Regional Conference, Feb. 17, UW-Eau Claire
Nearly 200 participants from seven universities attended the regional conference, which included guest speakers, four different competitions, and a marketing career fair. UW-Eau Claire Claire Mugge, Lee Peterson and Amanda Bower took 1st in the Enterprise Marketing Strategies Competition; Second place went to Blugolds Austin Samsa, Cooper VandeWalle and Haley Rockweiler. Samsa also placed 2nd in the Sherwin Williams Perfect Pitch Competition. UW-Eau Claire Karina Moen took 3rd in that event. Dr. Scott Swanson, Department of Management and Marketing, is the AMA faculty adviser.
CFA Institute Research Challenge, Feb. 16, Madison, WI
The CFA Institute Research Challenge brings students and industry professionals together locally, regionally, and globally for a real world competition that promotes best practices in equity research and company analysis. This year, the local competition was hosted by the CFA Society of Madison. The top team from this event advances to the Regional Final in Seattle, WA.
The UW-Eau Claire team came in 5th place. The team competed against undergraduate and graduate teams from Marquette University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Members of the UW-Eau Claire team were Michael Landorf, Chris Payne, Hannah Pongratz, Paige Richardson, and Thao Thran. Dr. Pedro Sottile, Department of Accounting and Finance, coached the group.
2017 CaseIT Case Competition, Feb. 14–17, Vancouver, BC.
The UW-Eau Claire team tied for 7th out of a field of 20 teams. The Blugold team, which consisted of information systems majors Sara Krajewski, Alyssa Noll, and Jarrett Yuknis, took 2nd place in their group, finishing behind the eventual competition winner, Indiana University. PSE. Members of the UW-Eau Claire Chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon will be attending the 2017 PSE National Convention in St. Louis, MO, April 17-23.
SIM Superbowl. Business students in MGMT 449 will compete in the biannual College of Business SIM Superbowl on April 25 in Schneider 100.
Collegiate DECA. Twenty UW-Eau Claire students qualified to attend 2017 Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference, April 26-29 in Anaheim, CA. Emily Elsner Twesme, Department of Business Communication, is the chapter adviser.
