French and Spanish major
Senior Emily Lamusga discovered early on that learning a different language could help connect her to interesting people across the world. Creating and maintaining those types of relationships was so important to her that she decided to major in both French and Spanish at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The double major is currently student teaching and has had the opportunity to study abroad in France and Costa Rica through UW-Eau Claire's study abroad program. During both of those experiences, Emily says she learned more about herself, her values and how to be a more independent and self-reliant person. Over the past year, she says she has gained the confidence to achieve many goals and push herself. In fact, this fall she will compete in her first duathlon and a half marathon — two dreams she is finally pursuing after several years. Emily took on the challenge of learning two languages to grow her relationships with people across the world and is making her dreams come true in physically demanding feats. The UW-Eau Claire student is making connections AND meeting challenges, and that's pretty powerful.
