Drones offer businesses new opportunities, experts say

As the Federal Aviation Administration works to develop its first regulations guiding the operation of Unmanned Aerial Systems — commonly referred to as drones — in the national airspace system, drone experts are discussing the varied ways the technology can be used by a variety of businesses and industries.

Dr. Joseph Hupy, an associate professor of geography at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, is among the experts recently quoted in regional media about the potential use of drones.

In a March 30 Gannett Wisconsin Media story titled "FAA has proposed regulations for drones under consideration," Hupy talks about the potential uses of drones by the insurance industry, particularly after a natural disaster like a tornado.
