Recognizing outstanding service to students

LaNette Flunker will retire August 31 after serving the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Department of Management and Marketing and the health care administration program for 19 years. An open house will be held in her honor on August 31 from 1-3 pm in the Center for Health Administration and Aging Services (CHAASE), Schneider 226. All are invited to attend.

Flunker, who joined the university in 1998, has held numerous positions within the department.

For the past six years, she held joint appointments as the practicum coordinator for the health care administration program and activities coordinator for CHAASE. In these positions, she worked closely with practicum preceptors and students, alumni, employers and others to build relationships between the university and the profession.

"During LaNette's tenure she helped grow the HCAD program, revised the practicum coursework, helped launch a major fundraising campaign, and developed and implemented a Winterim experience with HCAD providers for students, " said Dr. Doug Olson, CHAASE director.

Flunker, who is a 1985 graduate of the UW-Eau Claire health care administration program, was presented with the 2017 Distinguish Alumni Award at the CHAASE Annual Meeting in April. The award recognizes distinguished service in the field in a manner that brings credit to the award recipient and the university.

From 1998-2011, Flunker was a senior lecturer in the UW-Eau Claire Department of Management and Marketing, where she taught courses in marketing, health care marketing and professional sales. She served as the coach of the UW-Eau Claire sales team and was co-adviser for the UW-Eau Claire chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon, a student organization for students interested in sales and marketing. In 2007, Flunker was awarded the UW-Eau Claire Excellence in Teaching award, the university’s highest recognition for outstanding teaching.

"Through all of her positions at the university, LaNette has specialized in building lasting relationships with students and helping them to develop and be successful in their careers," said Dr. Kristy Lauver, chair of the Department of Management and Marketing.  "She has been a wonderful mentor to our students and a great colleague.  She will be missed and we wish her all the best in her retirement."
