Just as campus prepares to celebrate and honor veterans during the week of Nov. 11-15, UW-Eau Claire has once again been listed among the top universities in the U.S. for veterans by the Military Times in its "Best for Vets: Colleges 2020" rankings.
Included among the nation's top 100 public four-year colleges, this ranking continues a long history at UW-Eau Claire of exemplary support and services for active, reserve and retired military service members and their families.
Miranda Cross-Schindler, Military and Veterans Services manager at UW-Eau Claire, is pleased to see a positive review once again, as it helps to get the word out to veterans and families considering higher education that UW-Eau Claire is the right choice for their unique needs.
“To be recognized as 'Best for Vets' is an honor and something that we are very proud of," Cross-Schindler said. "Our campus is genuinely invested in supporting our veteran students and their family members during their time at UW-Eau Claire. This is evident in the many supportive services like the Veterans Center, Veteran and Military Services office and Veterans Club. Prospective students can use their federal GI Bill at any institution across the country, so making a decision where to apply can be overwhelming. Ranking as one of the best tells veterans that they will get a great education at UW-Eau Claire, while being honored and respected for their military service."
The rankings are based on the results of Military Times’ annual survey — a comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military student services and rates of academic achievement — as well as a detailed review of public data collected by federal agencies. The survey asks colleges and universities to document a wide array of services, special rules, accommodations and financial incentives offered to students with military ties, and to describe many aspects of veteran culture on a campus.
Veterans Day and week of events
In addition to the "Reflections of Vietnam" event taking place on Veterans Day (see related story), the campus will sponsor the following events in honor of military service members and veterans:
