Ever heard of leaf lifespan? It's a plant characteristic that varies widely from plant to plant, even in plants that live in the same environment. Researchers studied the leaf lifespan of 10 woodland species to find out if plants with long leaf lifespans had an economic advantage, and they found that indeed, they do have a greater return in carbon fixed per unit C.
