Illustration alum talks about post-grad life at UWEC GEEKcon

Art & Design alumna Rebecca (Becca) Farrow returns to UWEC on Saturday, December 9 for GEEKCon. She will be a guest speaker in one of the many events planned to shine light on the various aspects of the graphic arts and games entertainment industry.

Farrow graduated in spring 2013 with a B.F.A. in Illustration and has since garnered publishing credits from a series of comic book publishers including IDW Publishing, BOOM! Studios, and Black Mask Studios. She has also completed freelance work for Marvel and exhibited her work in Minneapolis at The Light Grey Art Lab.

One of her former art professors, Ned Gannon, spoke about Farrow saying, “Becca was always enthusiastic about her art work. She was dedicated and willing to work to improve her craft and storytelling ideas. She took that work ethic with her when she left and her persistence and dedication are beginning to reap results.”

When asked to describe what she would be discussing at UWEC GEEKCon 2017, Farrow said, “I plan on talking about my experience as a recent post-grad establishing myself as a freelance illustrator. I want to talk about things that I was or wasn't prepared for, and how the knowledge I gained in school translated into my professional career. I hope to spend a good portion of the panel taking student questions and hopefully pass along helpful advice!”

Farrow will be hosting an individual panel entitled, "So... what now? A Q&A session about post-grad freelance life.” Later that day she will also take part in a panel from 2:45-4:00pm, discussing with other talented artists about the art of graphic storytelling.
