Thousands of Blugolds to gather for Homecoming celebration

| Judy Berthiaume

Thousands of Blugold alumni and current UW-Eau Claire students will gather this weekend for Homecoming, one of the university’s biggest celebrations of the year.

Events will range from on-campus games to the yell-like-hell competition to alumni gatherings, and to the popular Homecoming parade.

“Literally thousands of alumni come back to campus to connect with friends and favorite professors, while enjoying celebrations on campus and in the community,” said Jane Larson, coordinator of alumni engagement. “While students have many of their own activities on campus during the week, they do join the alumni at the parade, and Blugold Fever Fest and football game in Carson Park. It’s fun for current students and alumni to come together to celebrate all that makes being a Blugold so special.”

This year’s celebration — Sept. 26-Oct. 2 — is even more special because UW-Eau Claire is celebrating its centennial year.

The theme of this year's Homecoming is "All Bark, No Bite: Blugolds Unite!"

Students will gear up for Homecoming by joining in games and competitions all week.

The always popular Snake Dance will begin at the base of the campus hill at 6:45 p.m. It’s followed at 7 p.m. by the Yell-Like-Hell competition and pep rally in Zorn Arena.

The Blugold athletics Hall of Fame Banquet also will begin at 4:30 p.m.

The College of Business 50th Anniversary Bash will run from 5-8 p.m. Friday in Schneider Hall, giving business alumni a chance to talk with each other as well as faculty and staff. Current students will lead alumni on tours of Schneider Hall, home to state-of-the-art classrooms and cutting-edge technologies.

The Campus Ambassadors Alumni Reunion will run from 7:30-10 p.m. Friday in The Cabin of Davies Center. Alumni of the organization, as well as previous advisers, will attend. Alumni and current Campus Ambassadors will walk in the Homecoming Parade, which will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1.

The always popular Varsity Night Live! will begin at 7 p.m. in Zorn Arena, featuring the talents of UW-Eau Claire students.

The Homecoming celebration will continue Saturday with the Homecoming Parade beginning at 10 a.m. at First Avenue.

Alumni, students and others then will gather at 11 a.m. Saturday in Carson Park for Blugold Fever Fest. The Blugold Marching Band will help fire up fans during the pregame fest.

UW-Eau Claire’s football team will take on UW-Stevens Point, with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. Saturday in Carson Park.

The Blugold Marching Band will provide the half-time entertainment.

The celebration will continue after the game, with The Fifth Quarter beginning at 4 p.m. in Carson Park. The postgame event will feature the Mike Rambo Project band.

A number of other events are planned for Homecoming weekend, all designed to bring together Blugolds from various majors, residence halls, sports teams and other organizations.
