As featured in the 2021 Blugold View online, a valuable resource first envisioned in 2009 as a one-time picnic gathering for alumni of color is now a growing retention tool, advancing UW-Eau Claire's equity, diversity and inclusion goals. The Alumni of Color Network (AOCN) offers Blugold alumni the opportunity to share their experiences, make meaningful connections and provide valuable networking avenues to current students.

Angela Pittman Taylor, a 2000 graduate in public relations, is AOCN board chair and co-founder. Pittman Taylor, who returns to campus frequently, works as a public relations officer for Baird investment banking in Milwaukee and is pleased with the growth the network has seen.

"The goal of the network is to supplement that existing support in meaningful ways through mentoring, networking and fundraising efforts," Pittman Taylor says.
