On Tuesday, Oct. 11, Alvin Ailey II dance company will be the first of five artists performing this season as part of UW-Eau Claire's Artists Series. The show takes place at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center on UW-Eau Claire’s lower campus. Immediately following the performance will be a reception with refreshments in the lobby of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
Known for merging modern dance with culture, Ailey is one of the most renowned dance companies in the country. With some of the most outstanding upcoming choreographers and performers, the company has been a major driving force in the modernization of dance culture in the United States as well as globally. The group takes part in several community outreach programs as well as maintaining a rigorous touring schedule. Founded in 1974, the company is under the direction of Sylvia Waters and artistic director Troy Powell.

The Artists Series is funded by student segregated fee monies through UW-Eau Claire. Performers are selected and administered by the Activities, Involvement and Leadership office and by an administrative committee composed of students, faculty, staff and community members. The Artists Series was created in 1965 and is now in its 52nd season promoting the performing arts and continues to seek development of aesthetic awareness, interdisciplinary appreciation and cultivation of a multicultural experience.
