Artists Series presents the Langston Hughes Project

This multi-media performance of Langston Hughes’s kaleidoscopic jazz poem suite combines the spoken word, stimulating visual images of the Harlem Renaissance, and amazing music performed by McCurdy's jazz quartet to create a vivid and inspiring celebration of life and creativity. The twelve-part epic poem was scored by Hughes with elements of blues and Dixieland, gospel, progressive jazz, Latin “cha-cha,” Afro-Cuban mambo music, West Indian calypso and African drumming. Musically electrifying performances deliver a powerful insight to this rich and valued history of the road to freedom. McCurdy’s impressive production was named "Live Experience of the Year" at the 2016 Jazz FM Awards in London.
