Accounting students compete in Deloitte Audit Case Competition

| Carrie Ottum

On Friday, November 8, Rachel Lucas, Jacob Mumm, Madison Morris, and Hayden Baughman, UW-Eau Claire accounting students, traveled to Minneapolis with Bill Miller, faculty mentor, to compete in the Deloitte Audit Case Competition.  During the competition, each team was provided a different case in which they needed to determine the proper method of accounting for the assigned case.  The teams prepared and presented a 15-minute presentation of their solution to a panel of Audit Partners from Deloitte. The students also responded to follow-up questions from the panel.

Teams were also represented by Concordia University, Gustavus Adolphus College, Bethel University, and Luther College. Gustavus University was awarded the winner of the competition.

"Our team did a fantastic job this year" stated Miller. "While the team from Gustavus won the competition, our students displayed tremendous professionalism, content knowledge, teamwork and problem-solving skills.  Deloitte uses these competitions as a recruiting tool and will be inviting students from each of the teams in for interviews.  This was a great opportunity for these students and they did us proud."

The UW-Eau Claire student team was mentored by Deloitte team members, Jackie Schoenecker and Eric Pronschinski '14.
