Biographical / Historical Note

The UW-Eau Claire Student Senate represents the best interests of the students of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire by authoring and passing legislation to better improve student life and the overall quality of the University. Some of the first foundations of the organization can be dated back to 1924. The current Student Senate organization that we know today was formed between 1964 and1966. Student Senate offers advice and opinions to the University faculty, University of Wisconsin System administration, Eau Claire City Council, as well as the state and federal governments.

Student Senate has the annual responsibility of allocating nearly 2.5 million dollars in segregated fees to organized activities such as Student Legal Services, Athletics, Health Services, NOTA, SRI and numerous other deserving organizations. In addition, Student Senate Commissions have limited control over another 2.5 million dollars within the Information and Technology Budget and Differential Tuition. The Information and Technology Budget controls laptop rentals, general access labs, wireless internet and much more. Differential Tuition funds faculty student collaborative research, service learning, first year experience classes as well as other quality programs. Student Senate also sponsors Ruckus, a legal file sharing service for the students of UWEC.
