Biographical/Historical Note
The May 6, 1925 issue of the Spectator reads, "Six of the nine Normal schools in the state have the Prom." This highlights the desire of several students to have a Junior-Senior Prom at Eau Claire. (UWEC was known as the Eau Claire State Normal School before becoming the Eau Claire State Teachers College in 1927).
After years of the student body campaigning to have a prom, the first Junior Prom was held at Eau Claire State Teachers College on May 29, 1929. They would remain a yearly occurrence through the 1960s. By 1965, the prom was being replaced by other dances and merged into other spring events. The last official “Junior Prom” was on April 30, 1966 and served as the end of a two-week International Festival.
Content Description
This collection contains all records saved pertaining to the planning of the Prom from the years 1931-1952. This mainly entails receipts/invoices and expense lists. Also included are dance cards/programs from the Proms and two books with the attendance lists from each prom from 1929 through the 1940s.
