Summary: Native American (Menominee, Winnebago, Pueblo) artifacts collected by Owen. Many of Owen’s artifacts were displayed in Schneider Social Science Hall on the university campus, with the Charlotte Goodner American Indian Artifacts Collection.

Biographical / Historical Note

Pieces from Owen’s Indian Artifacts Collection were displayed in Schneider Social Science Hall on the university campus from the 1960s-2000s, along with the Charlotte Goodner and Newman Indian Artifacts Collections. Part of the Owen collection was located in Schofield Hall and several artifacts stored in the Library Penthouse storage area during the 1970s.  Since the early 1990s, the bulk of the collection was in storage and managed by the Chippewa Valley Museum.  The origins of this collection are not well documented and acquisition information is largely unknown.  

Content Description

The collection contains Native American Artifacts collected by Owen. Included are artifacts from the Menominee, Winnebago, and Pueblo Native American Tribes. Collection contains artifacts such as a drum, beaded jewelry, clothing, bandolier and pipe bags, beaded purses, woven baskets, clubs, and a cradle board.

Administrative Information

Acquisition Information: Transferred to the University Archives, from Chippewa Valley Museum, in July 2014.  Donated to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation c. 1960.
