Biographical/Historical Note

The Order of the Eastern Star is a worldwide fraternal organization that is open to both men and women. Membership, however, is restricted to men who are Masons and women with specific Masonic affiliation (women who are the wives, daughter, sisters, etc. of Masons). The Order was founded by Dr. Robert Morris, “the poet laureate of Masonry,” in the late nineteenth century. The fundamental principles of the Order are based on the teachings of the Bible, but the Order welcomes followers of all religions as long as they have a belief in a Supreme Being. The organization’s stated purposes are: Charitable, Educational, Fraternal, and Scientific.
