The organization has several goals: to honor student achievement in academics and campus leadership, to encourage other students to strive for similar achievement, to bring faculty and students together, and to inform the opinions of the campus community on local and university issues. There are five criteria for membership: exemplary character, excellence in scholarship, leadership and service on campus or in the community, genuine fellowship, and dedication to democratic ideals.

The records include membership lists, group photographs, brochures about the national organization, correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, and documentation of local and national Omicron Delta Kappa activities. Also included is a National Leadership Summit and Convention 2012 pin; 30th Anniversary (2004) and Circle of Distinction (2012) certificates; and a light teal, black, and white banner. Early records include information about the transition of the organization from an all male to a co-educational organization.
