Biographical/Historical Note

Sports and the physical education program have been at UW-Eau Claire in different capacities since the start of the university in 1916. A physical education minor began being offered in 1947 with a major being offered to both men and women starting in 1974. In 1985, the physical education program merged with the men’s and women’s athletic programs to create the Department of Physical Education and Athletics. The athletics programs join the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) as a Division III member at the start of the 1986-1987 school year. The Department of Physical Education and Athletics was renamed to the Department of Kinesiology in May 1994.

Content Description

This collection contains game schedules and statistics, event and game pamphlets, and various pieces of correspondence and information related to sports and/or the athletics department at Eau Claire. It also contains “Sports in Review” informational booklets from various years throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
