Biographical / Historical Note

The University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire Grambling State University Student Exchange Program began in 1970 as a way to introduce students to new racial and cultural experiences. The University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire Grambling State University Student Exchange Program offered the opportunity for students at each of the schools to spend a semester as a minority member at the other participating campus with the goal of increasing an understanding of regional, historical, and cultural differences. GSU, located in north central Louisiana, is a predominantly black four-year state-supported university, emphasizing the liberal arts and teacher education. In the decade that the program existed, 45 UW-Eau Claire and 40 Grambling students participated. By 1980, due to lack of interest and applicants, the exchange program ended.
