Biographical/Historical Note

George Lincoln Rockwell visited UW – Eau Claire to give a speech as the head of the American Nazi movement on February 16, 1967. Dr. Carl Andresen introduced George Lincoln Rockwell in spite of protests, saying that he would never want to see the day where outside pressures would prevent certain speakers from giving presentations to American college students. Rockwell founded the American Nazi Party in 1958 in Arlington, VA with an estimated nationwide membership at under 1000 at the time of Rockwell’s death. Rockwell was shot and killed on August 25, 1967 by John Patler, known as the Nazi’s “Minister of Propaganda”. Patler was a former member of Rockwell’s Nazi group.
