Summary: Annual reports of a charity that provided social services to poor families of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.  The annual reports contain the minutes of the association’s annual meeting, lists of members of the board of directors, full financial reporting of the association’s various charitable funds, and notable projects and events of the past year.

Biographical / Historical Note

The Family Service Association of Eau Claire, Wisconsin was founded in 1896 by the Eau Claire Women’s Club under the name “Associated Charities.”  Around 1926, the name of the organization appears to have changed to “Family Services.”  By the 1950s and 1960s, the Family Service Association employed social workers and engaged in fund raising and philanthropic activities to support hundreds of low income families in Eau Claire.  Specific initiatives included no-interest loans to needy families, the distribution of clothing, shoes, and bedding, and gardening and canning assistance.  The Family Service Association was last listed in the Eau Claire city directory in 1977.

Content Description

The annual reports contain the minutes of the association’s annual meeting, lists of members of the board of directors, and full financial reporting of the association’s various charitable funds.  Additionally, the secretary’s report within the annual report provides an overview of the organization’s highlights of the past year, including fund raising projects, staff changes, and especially successful projects.
