Biographical / Historical Note

Cora Shiffer was born December 20, 1872 in Mondovi, Wisconsin to Mary and Steward Shiffer. She grew up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and in 1894, she married Walter A. Bradt. They farmed together on land in the town of Union, Wisconsin (the merged Shiffer and Bradt farms) until 1919. The couple had two daughters, Mrs. Carl Nelson (Mary Bradt) and Mrs. Bert C. Gibson (Helen Bradt), and a son, Walter Bradt, who died at the age of eight in 1918. Cora Shiffer Bradt died in 1958.

Content Description

The bulk of the collection consists of the journals of Cora Shiffer Bradt, who briefly, but nearly daily, recorded her family’s and her activities. These include domestic and farm work, social calls, and trips into town. Some of the entries appear to have been written by Bradt’s daughter, Mary. Other materials in the collection include family photographs, information on the Bradt / Koll / Willow Grove School, Mary Bradt’s high school memory book, and genealogical information.
