Biographical / Historical Note
Arthur MacLeod was a professional salesman with a deep interest in Wisconsin history. Having grown up in Washburn, Wis. and Eau Claire, Wis., he returned in his retirement to spend his summers in Washburn. He also wrote essays and speeches about the history of the two communities, conducting research in local newspapers and the Chippewa Valley Museum in Eau Claire, Wis. He seems to have delivered most of his speeches to the Washburn Historical Society.
Content Description
The collection consists of nine folders of local history essays arranged by topic. Topics include: lumber mills, railroads, Washburn, Wis., Eau Claire, Wis., Eau Claire company histories and Banbury Place, the Chippewa River, genealogy and biography, and miscellaneous topics. The richest content, MacLeod’s reminiscences of Eau Claire, are located in the genealogy and biography folder.
