D2L: Display Running Total for Students

This guide provides instructions to setup and display a running total for students. Refer to the Setup Grades guide if you have not already setup your gradebook.

Check/Change Settings

You can check or change your settings, if necessary. Skip to the Release Grades section below if your settings are correct.

  1. Access your course.
  2. Click the Grades tab.
  3. Click the Settings link on the top right side of the screen.
  4. Click the Calculation Options tab.
  5. Scroll to the Final Grade Released section and select Calculated Final Grade.
    NOTE: You can switch to Adjusted Final Grade at the end of the semester, but you cannot use it to display the running total all semester.

  6. Look at the Grade Calculated section and do the following:
    1. Select the Drop ungraded items button, if necessary.
    2. Select the Automatically keep final calculated grades updated checkbox, if necessary.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Click Yes.
  9. Click the Grades tab to return to the gradebook.
  10. Scroll to the right to the Final Grades accumulators.
  11. Click the drop-down arrow next to the Final Grade option selected in Step 5.
  12. Select Edit.
  13. Click the Grade Scheme drop-down arrow and select your grade scale.
    NOTE: You can select Percentage to display for students but will need to switch to a letter grade scheme at the end of the semester to submit final grades to CampS.
  14. Select the Show Display Options link, if necessary.
  15. Change Display Options for the Student View AND the Managing (Instructor) View to show the new grade scheme symbol.
    NOTE: You must select the Override display options for this item checkbox to be able to select options in the Show section.

  16. Click Save and Close.

Release Grades

Calculate the final grades and release them to students. Regardless what settings you have selected, students cannot see Final Grades columns unless you release it.

  1. Access your course.
  2. Click the Grades tab, if necessary.
  3. Scroll over to the right and click the Final Calculated Grade drop-down arrow.
  4. Select Grade All.
  5. Click the per page drop-down arrow per page on the right side of the screen and select an option so all of your students show on one page, if necessary.
  6. Click the Final Grades drop-down arrow.
  7. Select Release All.
  8. Click Yes.
  9. Click the Grades tab; an eye icon displays in the column of the grades being released when students can see grades.

    NOTE: If the eye icon shows in the wrong grade column, refer to the Check/Change Settings section of this guide to make a different selection.
