There are several best practices for how to use the technology in a way that promotes accessibility and inclusivity for all students, including the following:

  • Use the microphones equipped in most classrooms
  • Turn on subtitles during PowerPoint presentations
  • Turn on closed captions when watching a video or multimedia file in class
  • Use descriptive language when presenting content that is more visual (such as images, charts, or graphics)
  • Use accessible fonts in materials being presented on the screens
  • Write legibly and use dark-colored markers
  • Offer alternative formats of materials being shared
  • Share the materials ahead of time in Canvas for students to access before being presented in class
