University Centers: Building Operations Manager

Position: The Building Operations Manager is responsible for leading the flow of operations for University Centers spaces and includes, but is not limited to, oversight of building facilities, equipment and technology, LTS/IT software infrastructures, some contractual food service operations and event production operations. This position serves in a coordinating and liaison role with Facilities, LTS/IT, Purchasing, University Police, Blugold Central, Blugold Dining/Sodexo, alongside many outside vendors. Coordinating functions include: all contracted building, equipment and inventory needs, work orders and preventative maintenance; scheduled and unscheduled food service equipment, furniture and flooring replacement; small and large capital improvement projects; vehicle maintenance and training; and responding to many key functions to ensure smooth operations.  The Building Operations Manager reports to the Assistant Director of Event Production.

Primary responsibilities

  • Oversees and initiates the timely flow of operations for University Centers spaces, buildings, services, and equipment including the Davies Center, Hilltop and Schofield Auditorium
  • Maintains a plan to upkeep aesthetics and beautification of inside and outside spaces to contribute to recruitment, retention and student satisfaction
  • Builds and maintains relationships with campus stakeholders and outside vendors, with regular and annual communication, to coordinate all operations projects are completed from concept to completion
  • Ensures spaces, buildings, services, and equipment are operating properly. 
  • Coordinates preventative maintenance, repair and replacement for all spaces, buildings, services, and equipment needs
  • Develops a process to track and inspect spaces, buildings, services, and equipment for repair and replacement needs; initiates and coordinates work orders; schedules on-going, annual and emergency service cycles
  • Follows and understands purchasing requirements for equipment and services
  • Serves as backup for Blugold Dining/Sodexo equipment purchases and maintenance needs
  • Responsible for coordinating building hour postings several times throughout the year
  • Oversees the administration of the key watcher program
  • Coordinates needs for fleet vehicles including maintenance and repair, mileage logs and charges; responsible for coordinating ongoing CVTC truck training for student employees
  • Budgets and monitors costs involved with services including waste services, recycling management and maintenance groups


  • Represent University Centers on University-wide committees, task forces and working groups as appropriate
  • Attend and participate in university functions 
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Associate's Degree plus 2 years of professional experience in Operations Management
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee flow of operations
  • Knowledge and experience with purchasing protocol and inventory management
  • Superior interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of professional experience in Operations Management
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of EMS (Event Management Software)
  • Understanding of the importance of operating within state policies and procedures
  • History of supporting and active understanding of campus EDI initiatives
