English: Assistant Professor in English Education
Position: The English Department in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in English Education for the 2024-2025 academic year with a start date of August 19, 2024. Final authorization of the position is subject to availability of funding.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in English education or closely related field. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but all requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed by August 19, 2024.
- Three years of successful teaching at the middle or secondary level in the United States (or equivalent experience).
- Evidence of teaching excellence in English education methods and/or writing/composition.
- Evidence of strong scholarship or scholarly potential.
Preferred Assets:
- Secondary area of specialization in one or more of the following areas: digital literacy, multimodal communication, writing studies, culturally sustaining pedagogies, or children's/adolescent literature.
- Experience with supervision of field experience and/or program administration in English education.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach courses as assigned in the English Department: All department members teach in the Blugold Seminar in Critical Reading and Writing, our first-year writing program (https://www.uwec.edu/academics/blugold-seminar/)every semester as well as specialized and general courses in English. The typical semester load is 3 courses, equivalent to 11-12 credits. The successful candidate will supervise student teachers and participate in the administration of the English Language Arts-Teaching program. In addition, all department members participate in research and scholarly activities; provide academic advising to students as assigned; and engage in service to the department, university, and profession.
