Music and Theatre Arts: Assistant Professor of Voice
POSITION: The Department of Music and Theatre Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in voice (soprano or mezzo-soprano) at the rank of assistant professor to begin in the fall of 2024. The Department seeks an active performer who is committed to teaching excellence and to maintaining a vital undergraduate program. This appointment carries an initial two-year probationary appointment beginning with the 2024-25 academic year on August 19, 2024.
QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in Voice Performance or Voice Pedagogy. (ABD applicants may be considered but must complete the terminal degree by March 20, 2025.) Demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship/creativity activity. Previous college teaching experience will be considered an asset. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as instructor of applied voice lessons for all degree-seeking students, including musical theatre students, teach courses in diction and voice pedagogy, and contribute to the recruiting of prospective students. Additional classes may include a group voice class for instrumental majors and coaching a voice chamber ensemble. Based on candidate's interest and collaborative initiatives, as well as department needs, other courses and responsibilities are possible. Participate in research and creative activities; provide academic advising to students as assigned; engage in service to the Department, the University, and profession.
DEPARTMENT: The Department of Music and Theatre Arts serves over 400 majors and minors supported by approximately 30 full-time and 11 part-time faculty and 7 staff. UW-Eau Claire has a large and respected Voice and Choral Program, with six choirs and strong opera and musical theatre programs. The Department is highly regarded in the state and region and enriches the Eau Claire community while providing outstanding academic opportunities. Faculty are active solo and collaborative performers and are dedicated to innovative teaching. Academic programs include the BM degree in performance and composition; the BME degree in instrumental and choral music education; the BA and BS degrees in music and musical theatre. All degree programs are fully accredited by NASM.
