Special Education and Inclusive Practices: Assistant/Associate Professor or Clinical Instructor/Clinical Assistant Professor

POSITION: A full-time tenure-line Assistant/Associate Professor or Clinical Instructor/Clinical Assistant Professor position is available in the Department of Special Education & Inclusive Practices for the 2024-2025 academic year beginning August 19, 2024. This is a permanent position with salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Probationary Tenure-Line - Assistant/Associate Professor

Minimum Qualifications: An earned Doctorate in Special Education or a closely related field from a regionally accredited university and at least three years full-time teaching special education at the elementary or middle school level.

Preferred Qualifications: Dual certification in special and general education at the elementary/middle school level, commitment to teacher preparation and collaboration, ability to teach a broad array of special education and inclusive methods courses, expertise with formal and informal assessments and IEPs, and an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusivity as it applies to schools, special education, and the community at large. Understanding of the Universal Design for Learning framework, multi-tiered systems of support (PBIS/RtI), and educational/assistive technology. Leadership skills/experience, and university-level instruction and/or student teacher supervision desired.

DUTIES: Tenure-line faculty teach and supervise student teacher candidates the equivalent of 12 credits per semester; they also provide academic advising. Service to the Department, College, and University as well as fulfillment of a scholarly agenda are required. Out-of-term employment is often available.

Academic Instructional Staff-Clinical Instructor/Clinical Assistant Professor

Minimum Qualifications An earned masters degree in Special Education or a closely related field from a regionally accredited university and at least five years full-time teaching in special education at the elementary or middle school level.

Preferred Qualifications: Dual certification in special and general education at the Elementary/middle school level, commitment to teacher preparation and collaboration, ability to teach a broad array of special education and inclusive methods courses, expertise with formal and informal assessments and IEPs, and an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusivity as it applies to schools, special education, and the community at large. Understanding of the Universal Design for Learning framework, multi-tiered systems of support (PBIS/RtI), and educational/assistive technology. Leadership skills/experience and university-level instruction and/or student teacher supervision desired.

DUTIES: Clinical instructors teach the equivalent of 15 credits per semester, which may include academic advising, supervision of student teacher candidates, and providing service to the Department and College. Out-of-term employment is often available.

THE UNIT: The department of Special Education & Inclusive Practices consists of 10 faculty/academic staff and offers an integrated teacher preparation program leading to two teacher licenses: Special Education (K-12 cross-categorical) & K-9^th grade general education.
