Recreation and Sport Operations: Equipment and Laundry Room Coordinator

POSITION:   A full time position in the Department of Recreation & Sport Operations. The working title for this assignment is Equipment and Laundry Room Coordinator. The official title is Athletic Equipment Coordinator. The individual in this position will serve as the primary equipment and laundry personnel performing the daily tasks of washing, drying, folding, and distributing Athletic/Recreation/Kinesiology laundry. Additionally, this position will maintain some operational duties and facility maintenance tasks including the preparation of activity spaces for classes, set-up and take-down assignments for designated special events, maintenance duties for Simpson field, and other general facility projects for the McPhee/Olson complex.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Combination of experience, undergraduate education, and/or post high school training with laundry and/or sport equipment operations
  • Ability to read, write, understand and follow instructions
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and to push and pull linen carts
  • Organization, inventory and record keeping skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and with professionalism in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperate with diverse groups of people
  • Must be able to work an occasional irregular schedule including evenings and weekends

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience in repairing and maintaining athletic equipment
  • Knowledge of sanitary and cleansing protocol of athletic equipment
  • Field maintenance experience
  • Previous organizational or supervisory responsibilities

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

Laundry and Equipment

  • Ensure that all soiled laundry is washed, dried, folded, and distributed daily
  • Install, remove, and store appropriate equipment for Kinesiology activity classes as determined by semester and event schedules
  • Evaluate and update washing schedules and procedures as needed to suit the needs of stakeholders
  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise all student laundry workers
  • Work with student staff for completion of washing laundry, installing, and removing equipment for activity classes and events, and covering non-traditional operating hours
  • Structure availability and work with student staff to complete laundry for preseason activities and NCAA hosted tournaments for athletic teams and other groups outside of normal operating times
  • Work collaboratively with athletic, recreation, and kinesiology staff for laundry needs, equipment organization, and storage availability within the space 
  • Repair or recommend repair of clothing and permanent activity equipment
  • Assist with the distribution of equipment and clothing, verify their return, and check equipment storage
  • Maintain a sufficient supply of detergents and other cleaning agents
  • Keep a clean, organized, and secure laundry and equipment room
  • Inform supervisor of all purchase needs for efficient functioning of the laundry and equipment room
  • Execute check-out and end-of-year clean-out and inventory processes for lockers, locks, laundry loops, and other items

Facility Maintenance and Operations

  • Perform weekly field grooming and maintenance responsibilities for the Simpson turf field
  • Complete daily checks of Simpson field and assist with keeping complex clean and organized including moving equipment, disposing of garbage, organizing sheds, and locking gates
  • Assist with setup and takedown of designated special events as assigned by Supervisor
  • Assist with postseason NCAA tournaments when appropriate
  • Help serve as the building receiving and shipping clerk and be responsible for distributing all parcels received and contacting package recipients when necessary
  • Perform cleaning of equipment to include bleachers, fans, tables, chairs, and other facility spaces

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Other duties and responsibilities as needed by the Supervisor, McPhee/Olson complex, and Recreation and Sport Operations Department.
