Business Development and Sales Manager

A full-time academic staff position is available in University Centers beginning January 2023.  The official title for this assignment is Administrative Manager with a working title of Business Development and Sales Manager. This is a fixed term assignment and will require a six-month probationary period.  The salary range will commensurate with experience and qualifications.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • Educational or professional background in business, hospitality, or related field;
  • Sales and budget experience;
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills;
  • Ability to analyze problems and formulate solutions based upon sound business principles;
  • Ability to develop and execute a comprehensive business plan; and
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusivity.

DUTIES: The Business Development & Sales Manager of University Centers directs the overall strategy of event sales for University Centers. This position is responsible for generating new business and client relationships and developing proposals as appropriate. Additionally, this position will initiate and manage the sale of group events of various sizes and complexities including but not limited to event programming, corporate sponsorships, digital media sponsorship and companion events. Ultimately, this position is responsible for all aspects of event sales, planning, client management, billing/invoicing, and must work with client and Event Services staff to execute events, proper planning and logistics in support of achieving unit goals.

Principal Functions and Duties

  • Responsible for upholding the University Mission through dedicated job performance and service excellence with a commitment to holistic student development
  • Exhibits behaviors that properly represent the University’s mission, vision and values including, but not limited to, taking substantive measures to create and maintain an inclusive environment free of bias, leading and communicating in a way that champions diversity, and creating inclusive awareness for greater understanding of diversity

Business Development

  • Generate new revenue through event sales, corporate sponsorships, and digital media. This will include generating companion events in partnership with Sonnentag Center, Pablo and other community entities
  • Identifies and develops new and potential areas of revenue growth
  • Creates a portfolio of donors and prospects for cultivation and solicitation
  • Develop framework for effective lead generation and follow through process
  • Provide excellent customer service by establishing relationships of a growing client data base
  • Collaborates and coordinates with Event Services staff to plan and execute logistics of events
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external suppliers including Event
  • Services, Facilities, Catering, Parking and production equipment companies
  • Execute excellent customer service

Scope of other responsibilities

  • Serve on various University Centers committees as needed.
  • Establish a positive collaborative working relationship with university departments, students, auxiliary partners and community agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive work culture and interact effectively with colleagues and leadership in all aspects of the job
