Building and Grounds Manager

A full-time professional academic staff position is available in Facilities beginning December 2022. The official/working title for this assignment is Building and Grounds Manager.  This is a renewal assignment and salary will be based on qualifications and experience.

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   Exceptional oral and written communication skills.  Knowledge and ability to read and interpret safety labels, blueprints, diagrams, technical manuals, etc.
  •  Proficient in the use of Microsoft office (Outlook, Work, Excel and PowerPoint) software.
  •  Experience in project estimating and budgeting.
  •  Experience in planning, organizing and implementing year round Horticulture and grounds operations (grounds master planning, turf management, mowing and snow removal operations and Arboriculture)
  •  Must possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license, maintain a UW-Eau Claire Driver’s Authorization and continue to meet UW Risk Management standards for driving a state vehicle.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Demonstrated organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.
  • Minimum associates degree in Horticulture or Landscape, Plant and Turf Management or related degree
  • Knowledge and experience working with Peoplesoft and TMA maintenance management software.
  • Certified Arborist
  • Planned, developed or managed an Arboretum
  • A Commercial Pesticide Applicators License is required and must obtain within the first six months of employment if not currently held.

DUTIES:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities, this position manages the Grounds/Vehicle department of the Facilities Division and directly supervises: 1 Landscape Architect, 1 Grounds Crew Lead, 1, Auto Technician Senior, 2 Gardeners and 5 Groundskeepers, (total of 10 FTE) along with seasonal supplemental employees. Supervision requires direct and close working relationship to Grounds staff. This position will manage the accomplishment of general landscaping planning, maintenance, snow removal and may include landscape construction projects. Responsibilities include maintenance of 363 acres of UW-Eau Claire property, working with the Landscape Architect and Grounds Crew Lead for developing plans and designs for construction of landscape improvements, specialized outdoor spaces, sidewalks and parking lots, as well as supervising some contracted work.
