College of Business: Professional Consultant Editor (part-time)

A part-time, university staff position is available in the College of Business beginning September 12, 2022. The working title for this assignment is Editor with an official title of Professional Consultant. This position contingent on performance and funding and reports to the dean.  This position is primarily responsible for working with manuscript authors to align content with the publication’s style and editorial policy.  This will include proofreading research manuscriptions and resolving errors or inconsistencies in style, syntax, grammar, and format to the content is understandable to the reader.

APPOINTMENT: Approximately 10 hours per week ranging from 5-15 as needed.   There is opportunity for remote work after onboarding.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written) and customer service skills working with a diverse community.
  • Consistent attention to detail, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to working with diverse populations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in English, Journalism, or Communication or related field.
  • Ability to learn new systems, software, and processes quickly, including common applications (e.g., Qualtrics, WISER, PeopleSoft, TAM, Data Warehouse, BP Logix, etc.).
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to self-motivate, take initiative, and work well independently.

DUTIES:

  • Ensure unoriginal content is cited appropriately according to the publication's required citation style.
  • Assist researcher with using Qualtrics or similar survey tools to develop and administer surveys and create reports used for research purposes.
  • Assist researcher with survey question development to ensure that questions are understandable to the reader and align with the researcher's goals.
  • Assist researcher to effectively use PowerPoint tools in the creation of presentation materials.
