Integrated Marketing and Communications: Marketing Specialist (CRM and Email Marketing Emphasis)

A full-time position is available in Integrated Marketing Communications beginning in September of 2022. The working title for this assignment is Marketing Specialist with an official title of Marketing Specialist.  The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The candidate for this position will work closely with the Admissions office on the recruitment of prospective undergraduate students at UW-Eau Claire, with a focus on email marketing and database management. Hybrid and remote work options are available.

  • Responsible for supporting UW-Eau Claire's strategic marketing initiatives for student recruitment, retention, and reputation.
  • Manage end-to-end email campaigns to create engagement and move prospective students through the sales funnel.
    • Build emails from templates, write copy, coordinate assets, run queries, test and schedule.
    • Create and execute A/B tests and advise on improvements.
    • Collaborate with designers, copywriters and other marketing team members to gather assets and optimize creative based on email best practices and continuous evaluation.
    • Use CRM data, such as academic interest and web behavior, to better understand our audience to drive messaging and content personalization.
    • Manage and execute email marketing calendar and ensure alignment with recruitment campaigns and new initiatives.
    • Provide regular campaign performance metrics to key stakeholders and compare against industry benchmarks and key performance indicators.
    • Regularly identify trends and email marketing strategies from higher education leaders and global brands to stay current with best practices and innovative email marketing tactics.
  • Liaison with Admissions office on understanding prospective student audience; and evaluate and execute the acquisition of prospective student records.
  • Along with other team members, participate in meetings with university faculty and staff, campus colleagues and administration, to determine the academic distinctions and student experiences that distinguish UW-Eau Claire from other universities and to advance the reputation of UW-Eau Claire.
  • Help educate colleagues across campus on best practices for communicating the lifetime benefit and value of a UW-Eau Claire degree, and marketing and communication strategies in general, with focus on strategic delivery across digital platforms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required.  

  • Proven work experience in managing email campaigns executed through a CRM database.
  • Experience with analyzing the performance of large email marketing campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience querying a database and using data to make strategic recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to write copy for multi-channel delivery (web, print, email, events).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills and exceptional attention to detail in order to maintain the integrity of CRM data.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative setting, as well as work independently.
  • Ability to think strategically, as well as meet deadlines for multiple projects.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to working with diverse populations


  • Experience with lead scoring.
  • Demonstrated work on other digital marketing strategies including web communication.
  • Working knowledge of HTML.
  • Experience in executing marketing campaigns from concept to completion.
  • Knowledge in email compliance and privacy legislation, both domestic and international (e.g., CCPA, CAN-SPAM; GDPR; CASL)
  • Experience with marketing automation.
  • Experience working in a complex organization.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.

THE UNIT: The unit of Integrated Marketing and Communications leads recruitment marketing, public relations, and internal communications for the university. Our team is comprised of strategists and storytellers, including marketing specialists, writers, editors, designers, videographers, photographers.
