Philosophy and Religious Studies: Lecturer in Religious Studies

POSITION: A full-time Lecturer position is available in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies to teach introductory and courses in Religious Studies and advanced courses in Asian Religions and Psychology of Religion for the upcoming academic year beginning August 22, 2022. This one-year appointment offers a salary commensurate with experience and qualifications (salary range: $40,000–$45,000).

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in Religious Studies from a regionally accredited institution is strongly preferred, though A.B.D. applicants will be considered. A demonstrated ability to teach introductory and courses in Religious Studies and advanced courses in Asian Religions and Psychology of Religion is required; a research trajectory and demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusiveness will be considered assets.

DUTIES: Teach the equivalent of 15-credits per semester.

  • Two sections of Introduction to the Religions of the World each semester (one of which will be online in the fall).
  • One section of Hinduism and one section of Psychology of Religion in the fall;
  • One section of Buddhism and another course TBD in the spring.
  • Opportunity to teach during Winter and Summer sessions if desired, contingent on enrollment. 

THE UNIT: The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies consists of four tenure-stream faculty members and three instructional academic staff members. The Department oversees two majors, two minors, and three certificates (Ethics, Analytical Reasoning, and World Religions.
