Institutional Research: Analyst

A full-time, professional academic staff position is available in the Office of Institutional Research beginning June 20, 2022, or soon thereafter. The working title for this assignment is Institutional Research Analyst. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with three years of experience in research-related work is required. Also required are coursework and/or experience in statistical or other quantitative research or analysis methods;  experience working with Microsoft Office and survey software; experience with Tableau or other data visualizations; strong project management skills, including teamwork skills; strong written and oral communication skills, as well as creative and critical thinking skills; experience translating/interpreting data and analyses into easy-to-understand explanation; ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure. Must be work-authorized in the United States.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  A master’s degree or other graduate or professional degree; previous experience in an Institutional Research setting; knowledge of higher education ERP systems (i.e. PeopleSoft); experience with basic database programming; ability and willingness to quickly learn new tools and technologies; experience with basic database programming; ability and willingness to quickly learn new tools and technologies; experience with student life cycle data sets including admissions, student, curricular, degree, as well as HR and financial systems.

This position works under the supervision of the Director of Data Management, Analytics and Reporting to help assure that the Office of Institutional Research (IR) meets all objectives and priorities within the realm of its vision and mission statements. Requires working knowledge of statistical or other quantitative research or analysis methods.  Performs analysis, interpretation and reporting services requiring software knowledge, project management skills, strategic planning skills, communication skills, a professional commitment to compliance and accountability, and an in-depth understanding of the University’s comprehensive data resources. Investigates, researches, gathers, analyzes, and summarizes institutional data in support of information and research needs for planning and policy making decisions. This will require skills in web page design and the creation of analytical dashboards and visualizations. The work of this position involves collaboration with administrators, deans, department chairs, directors, functional staff, and LTS staff.

Coordinate Decision-Support Systems {50%}

  • Collaborate with the Director of Institutional Research and others to facilitate data-informed decision-making to support the goals of the university
  • Create and maintain dashboards for tracking progress on goals for various institutional plans and initiatives (Chancellor’s guidepost goals, university strategic plan, academic plan, etc.)
  • Create and maintain analytical dashboards and data visualizations for use in other university planning and decision-making needs
  • Train campus users on the use of UW-Eau Claire decision support systems

Information and Data Analysis  {30%}

  • Using business intelligence tools (currently EasyMorph, OBIEE, Tableau, and Excel), develop and maintain statistical information reporting systems
  • Provide support to individuals and groups in collecting, analyzing and visualizing data used to improve the student experience
  • Working with the Director of Assessment, assist in identifying assessment data to ensure equity in access and opportunity across academic and service programs
  • Working with the Director of Assessment, prepare assessment results for dissemination to the entire university community
  • Use survey software (Survey Monkey, Qualtrics, etc.) to prepare, distribute, and analyze surveys of internal stakeholders (NSSE, Alumni, and ad hoc)

Data and Systems Management  {10%}

  • Maintain the assessment data management system in SharePoint
  • Collaborate with the Director of Assessment to coordinate assessment reporting processes for curricular programs
  • Collaborate with offices on campus to ensure data are available for use by appropriate stakeholders
  • Maintain and advise on the creation and update of BPLogix forms for assessment

Web Design and Maintenance {5%}

  • Design and maintain the IR and Assessment websites and SharePoint sites using various website development technologies
  • Respond to additions and changes in a timely manner
  • Solicit feedback on the usefulness of the website and make changes, when appropriate

Miscellaneous  {5%}

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director Data Management, Analytics and Reporting
  • Assist with supervision of student staff

THE UNIT: The Office of Institutional Research provides information, analysis and services that foster and support effective and informed decision-making, policy formulation and planning to the UW-Eau Claire campus.  Currently, our unit consists of a director, a policy analyst, two research analysts, a couple student workers, and a part-time program assistant.
