Groundskeeper

A full-time university staff position is available in The Grounds Dept Beginning January 2022. The working title for this assignment is Groundskeeper with an official title of Groundskeeper. This is an expected-to-continue assignment which requires a six-month probationary period. The expected hourly hiring salary will be $15.00/hr.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A thorough knowledge of Turf Maintenance, good at working with user groups (coaches, city of EC, recreation, line painting crew), some mechanical ability/knowledge, communication skills, math aptitude, computer skills (email, word), can lift 50 pounds, able to work in extreme heat/cold, good attitude, team player, flexible it the workplace.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: experience in irrigation management and/or repair, smart watering, lawn mowing, spraying (certified pesticide applicator) tree and shrub knowledge, chain saw use and maintenance, snow removal, athletic field and general turf management, general horticulture knowledge

DUTIES:

  • Assist in grounds maintenance and repairs of designated landscaped areas, underground irrigation systems maintenance, and landscape/grounds development projects.
  • Operation and maintenance of grounds equipment as needed.
  • Installs, propagates, and maintains the health of new and existing plants and landscape using a variety of vehicles and equipment
  • Constructs lawn and landscaping projects including soil grading, seeding, and sodding
  • Identifies and acts to remedy plant diseases and insect damage
  • Implements and monitors chemical and fertilizer programs
  • Maintains clean and clear lawns, walkways, roadways, and parking lots to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice.
  • Assist in implementation of winter safety procedures by assisting with the removal of snow and ice
  • By definition of this position, persons in this position are considered a campus security authority (CSA) to whom individuals may report certain crimes occurring within UWEC on-campus and off-campus property.
  • Other duties as assigned.

THE UNIT: The unit of Grounds consists of nine staff members and is responsible for the maintenance of all grounds owned by UW-Eau Claire. https://www.uwec.edu/facilities/grounds-services/
