Kitchen Supervisor/Cook

A full-time university staff position is available in Children’s Nature Academy. The working title for this assignment is Kitchen Supervisor with an official title of Cook 1.  This is an expected-to-continue assignment which requires a six-month probationary period The expected hourly hiring salary will be based on qualifications and experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Education: Graduation from high school, or equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience in production or commercial cooking. Experience with the Child and Adult Care Food Program requirements and documentation preferred. Culinary Art training or degree.

DUTIES:

  • Facilitates the process of preparing nutritious meals and snacks for enrolled children.
  • Ensures distribution of food to rooms at appropriate times.
  • Practices safe food handling techniques.
  • Plans for and purchases all food and necessary supplies needed to provide food service.
  • Maintains verification of food and non-food purchases to meet CACFP requirements.
  • Keeps a daily meal production record following the requirements of the CACFP to calculate appropriate amounts.
  • Keeps clear, up-to-date counts for the Food Program.
  • Keeps a daily record of menus.
  • Obtains and retains proper documentation of menu items and food requirements.
  • In collaboration with the Director and Asst. Director, develops monthly menus to meet CACFP meal pattern requirements.
  • Maintains a safe and sanitary kitchen, mechanical room and storage areas.
  • Attends CACFP conferences and other workshops as needed.
  • Using CACPF guidelines ensures the children are receiving proper serving sizes.
  • Monitors the dishwasher and the refrigerator and freezer to ensure they are running correctly and remaining at the appropriate temperatures.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking.
  • Performs any additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Director and/or Director.
