Art & Design: Assistant Professor in Interdisciplinary Design

A probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor is available in the Department of Art & Design in the College of Arts & Sciences. The department seeks a dynamic candidate with expertise in interdisciplinary design who is committed to teaching excellence and to maintaining active undergraduate programs.  This appointment carries an initial two-year probationary appointment beginning with the 2022/2023 academic year on August 22, 2022.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master of Arts, Master of Science, or Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design or a related field by August 22, 2022 is required.  ABD applicants will be considered but must complete the terminal degree by March 20, 2023. Candidates must have expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud, as well as HTML and CSS. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to teach required and elective studio and lecture courses at all undergraduate levels to majors and non-majors. The candidate must demonstrate ability to contribute to the department’s EDI initiatives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: expertise in UI/UX User Interface, User Experience Design, Design Thinking and Research, Information Visualization, and three-dimensional product design, exhibition design, motion graphics, and emerging technologies; experience in the design profession or related field; experience or interest in the development of new courses, innovative curriculum, and advising models for undergraduate programs in visual arts and design.

DUTIES: Teach three courses per semester at all levels based on program needs and in accordance with specialization; participate in research and creative or scholarly activities; provide academic advising to students as assigned; engage in service to the department, university, and profession.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Art & Design consists of seventeen faculty and staff. There are approximately 220 majors. It offers the following programs: Bachelor of Fine Arts, BA/BS in Studio Art and Graphic Communications, and Liberal Arts BA/BS in Studio Art. The department offers minors in studio art and art history. Design courses are part of the Multimedia Communication minor.
