Spring Semester COVID-19 Testing Protocols

Antigen testing guidelines for all UWEC students, faculty and staff

As part of our ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, UW-Eau Claire is continuing to invest in testing, tracing, and best practices in infectious disease control. To ensure we can stay safe and stay together through in-person instruction this semester, we have expanded our antigen testing protocols to include all UWEC students as well as faculty and staff.

UWEC Students

On-Campus UWEC Students

All students living in university housing (includes on-campus residence halls, Haymarket Landing, Aspenson Mogensen, Priory Hall) are required to take an antigen test each week during the spring semester. Daily use of the Blugold Protocol app is required.

All antigen tests will be conducted at McPhee Center.

Students will utilize a new system to register for antigen tests. All students should register for testing at https://www.doineedacovid19test.com/. When registering for testing, please remember to use your local address so that the appropriate health department can receive the most accurate information. You will also be asked to enter an identification number. Please use your Blugold ID number and bring your Blugold Card with you when you go to be tested.

This is an important point for everyone’s safety.

Off-Campus UWEC Students

Students who live in an off-campus residence are required to be tested every other week this semester, with the option to be tested weekly.

Students who are not living in university housing and are enrolled in all remote-instruction classes with no plan to come to campus during the 2021 spring semester are not required to use the Blugold Protocol app or take part in the antigen testing. If students are involved in clinical placements, such as student teaching or nursing clinicals, or plan to come on campus for research or to access campus facilities, they must follow the Blugold Protocol app and take part in the required testing.

UWEC Student Teaching Supervisors and Student Teachers

General Education University Student Teaching Supervisors (not full-time faculty/staff)

  1. All supervisors complete the Blugold Protocol Self-Monitoring daily through the end of student teaching in mid-June.
  2. Any supervisor with symptoms or exposure to COVID-19 must complete the appropriate testing and quarantine. Test results are reported in the app or on the web site. The situation is reported to Student Health Services (covidinfo@uwec.edu, 715.836.5075) and the TEP Office (tep@uwec.edu, 715.836.2281). Testing may occur through the on-campus testing program or somewhere else depending on where the supervisor lives and their individual situation.
  3. Any supervisor with a positive COVID-19 test will report the positive result to the TEP Office. Susan Weber (websersu@uwec.edu, 715.836.5260) in Human Resources on campus will be notified immediately of positive test results by the TEP Office.
  4. For supervisors who are not coming to campus and not doing observations in-person in PK-12 schools, antigen testing every other week is optional. Those who wish to take advantage of the testing on campus can do so but it is not required.
  5. For supervisors who are not coming to campus but have observations in Altoona, which does require in-person observations, those supervisors are encouraged to participate in the every other week antigen testing but it is not required. Note: some supervisors will have Altoona observations just for one of the spring quarters, some for both. Testing is encouraged for the time period they are observing in Altoona.
  6. Supervisors who are coming to campus, regularly or occasionally, must participate in the every other week antigen testing.
  7. For the few supervisors who are employed by departments to teach courses as well as employed by the TEP Office for student teaching supervision, those individuals must consult with their department chair and follow the guidance/recommendations of the chair with regards to antigen testing.

Student Teachers (all, regardless of program)

  1. All student teachers complete the Blugold Protocol Self-Monitoring daily through the end of student teaching in mid-June. This includes student teachers placed out-of-state such as in Texas.
  2. Any student teacher with symptoms or exposure to COVID-19 must complete the appropriate testing and quarantine. Test results are reported in the app or on the web site. The situation is reported to Student Health Service (covidinfo@uwec.edu, 715.836.5075) and the TEP Office (tep@uwec.edu, 715.836.2281). Testing may occur through the on-campus testing program or somewhere else depending on where the student teacher lives. This includes student teachers placed out-of-state such as in Texas.
  3. All student teachers are notified by the TEP Office of testing availability on campus and the procedure for arranging testing.
  4. Student teachers in out-of-state placements are not required to do weekly testing. They follow the guidelines and procedures for the locales or school districts in which they are placed.
  5. Student teachers in Wisconsin are encouraged to do weekly testing but it is not required. Some student teachers are placed and living away from Eau Claire and will not be able to get to campus for testing before the test site is closed.
  6. Student teachers may, over the course of the semester, vary what they do regarding testing based on their placement. One placement may be close to Eau Claire and student teachers may do weekly testing then, while the other placement might be a distance away and student teachers may not do testing during that placement.
  7. A few student teachers live on campus. Those student teachers are expected to comply with on-campus student requirements for testing.
