Starting in Fall 2017, Towers Hall will undergo an exciting renovation process that will improve bathroom privacy, add air conditioning, and transform the students’ shared community spaces. In order to move forward, Towers South will close for the 2017-2018 school year. Towers North will remain open until its renovation in 2018-2019 school year.
Major Project Elements
Student rooms will receive new furniture, carpeting, and perhaps most exciting, air conditioning. Bathrooms will be relocated and rebuilt to allow for more privacy and modern features. Gender neutral bathrooms will also be added to every residential floor.
All HVAC and plumbing will be replaced to provide comfort. All windows will be replaced to allow for efficient climate control.
A first-floor and basement addition will be added in order to create more useful and comfortable common spaces for students to gather to work on group projects, study, and socialize. A convenience store and coffee shop with outdoor patio will be added for students' enjoyment.
Impact on Residents During Construction
Many basement rooms will be closed during construction. Just next door to Towers is the Hilltop Center, which will provide a great outlet for recreation and entertainment while some of the social rooms in Towers undergo their own facelift.
Contractors will use spaces adjacent to the buildings as a staging area, and will fence off areas for students' safety. Some typical foot-traffic areas will be re-routed, but there will continue to be ample outdoor recreation space.
Residents should anticipate construction noise from typically 7am-4pm Monday-Friday (days and times may vary depending on project needs). Such noises include jack hammering, general construction noise, operating machinery, cranes, etc.
Towers South will be unavailable for the 2017-2018 year.
Towers North will be unavailable during the 2018-2019 year.
Barring any unforeseen construction delays, Towers will be completed and all areas fully-operational for Fall 2019.
Contractors will be limited to doing work during a pre-scheduled business day. Hours will be posted in the building, to allow students to plan their sleep and study. There will be restrictions on construction activity during final exams. The nature of construction will mean activity, noise and some vibration during construction hours.
