ResCom Help Desk

The ResCom Help Desk is UW-Eau Claire's support team for the computing and technology infrastructure within Housing & Residence Life.

Office walk-in hours are by appointment only. 

We are limited to 1 client at a time physically in the office. 
Walk-in appointment hours are between 4:00pm-8:00pm, Monday-Thursday.

Before You Connect

Make sure you are aware of the UW-Eau Claire's Computer and Network Usage Guidelines. Any devices detected within Housing & Residence Life network that are compromised by malware, spyware, viruses or personal routers/access points that are causing network problems or abuse or are in violation of the UWEC Copyright Policy, are subject to be removed from the network. 

Connecting to the Wireless Network

Connect your wireless device that you'll use across campus (phone, tablet, laptop, watch) to the "UWEC" network.  You will need your UWEC username and password to connect.  You will use this network all over campus, including the residence halls.

For other devices such as gaming consoles, SmartTV's and other non-standard devices that you cannot authenticate to the UWEC network, use the "UWECreshall" network.  You will need to first register your device's MAC Address at the My Devices Portal ( in order to connect to this network.

For those devices which do not have an Ethernet port, we strongly urge you do purchase a Wireless USB Adaptor.  Many gaming consoles, desktops and other devices can connect this way. Some devices need specific manufacturer adaptors to work (ex: Apple devices, Nintendo, etc.).

Connecting to the Wired Network

For those devices you cannot connect wirelessly, you may submit a Port Activation request to get an Ethernet port activated in your Residence Hall room. 
NOTE: Port activations are unavailable at Priory Hall. 

Port activations are very limited throughout the Residence Halls, and if approved, will be completed within 48-72 business hours upon submission.  At the beginning of the semester we are very busy so these requests may take even longer.

Job Duties
The ResCom Help Desk is UW-Eau Claire's support team for the computing and networking infrastructure within Housing and Residence Life. ResCom Help Desk services are provided for the students and staff/faculty of Housing and Residence Life, including those living in hotels.

This position is responsible for assisting Housing students with connecting their personal computers to the campus network, via Ethernet and WiFi connections. Included is troubleshooting of any network related connection problems, cleaning for virus and security exploits along with spyware/malware problems. This work will be done both on-site in the office and off-site in the residence halls.

This position also supports Housing's computer labs and administrative computers, including routine scheduled maintenance, upgrades/repairs and troubleshooting hardware and software problems.

Knowledge and Experience
Operating system knowledge of Windows 8.1, 10 and Mac OS 10.10+
Knowledge of UW-Eau Claire lab software and an understanding of the campus computing environments
The ability to troubleshoot computer network and security problems
Knowledge of computer hardware and software and computer security tools (such as anti-virus and anti-malware software)
Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Excellent verbal and written and customer service skills
Ability to learn new technologies
Must highly reliable and be able to work with others
