Blugold Welcome kicks off the academic year during the Fall semester move-in weekend with a variety of welcoming activities and several social get-togethers! View the schedule here for activities and events!

Saturday, August 31st

First Year/Transfer Student Move-in (Day 1)
  • Time: 8 am–4 pm
  • Location: Residence Halls, Full Campus
Movie on the Mall featuring Aladdin (2019)
  • Time: 9 pm
  • Location: Campus Mall Amphitheater*

*Rain site: Woodland Theatre, Davies Center (lower campus)

Join us on the campus mall for a free movie and free popcorn! Don’t forget to bring a chair or a blanket!

Film Description:
Aladdin is a lovable street urchin who meets Princess Jasmine, the beautiful daughter of the sultan of Agrabah. While visiting her exotic palace, Aladdin stumbles upon a magic oil lamp that unleashes a powerful, wisecracking, larger-than-life genie. As Aladdin and the genie start to become friends, they must soon embark on a dangerous mission to stop the evil sorcerer Jafar from overthrowing young Jasmine's kingdom.

Floor Meetings

RAs will be hosting a mandatory floor meeting on Sunday, September 1st at 3:30 pm. While there, you will find out what residence life is all about! You'll get to connect with your neighbors, discuss community standards, review the Blugold Welcome and Opening Day schedule, and learn about residence hall policies and Hall Council involvement opportunities. Don't miss it!

Sex Signals
  • Time: 5 pm, 7 pm, and 9 pm (Rotation)
  • Location: Schofield Auditorium, Lower Campus

A real-life, funny, sort-of improvisation show about sex…and stuff. You are guaranteed to both laugh and learn something- and isn’t that what you’re here for? Attend one of three shows at 5 pm, 7 pm, or 9 pm. Look to your RA and wristband color for your community’s exact showtime.

Monday, September 2nd

Labor Day Holiday
Tour de Rec
  • Time: 9 am-11 am
  • Location: Various locations, Upper Campus

Join Recreation for food, fun and fitness. All activities are FREE. Take an outdoor tour of fitness opportunities on campus with student tour guides, join in a group exercise class, try bouldering, log-rolling or zip-lining, run up the hill for a t-shirt or just stop by for food and atmosphere!

Tour (~2 miles), leaves from Hilltop Overhang

Zip Line at the Ropes Course
  • Time: 2–6 pm
  • Location: Behind Sutherland Hall, Upper Campus

Come and enjoy an afternoon ride on the Eagle's View Challenge Ropes Course Zip Line! This is a FREE event but spaces are limited, so please arrive early.

Davies Party
  • Time: 8 pm–midnight 
  • Location: Various locations in Davies Student Center, Lower Campus

Welcome to your home away from home, your new living room, your hang out place: DAVIES! Enjoy a dance party DJ with TeawhYB, trivia, free bamboo (limited supply) canvas painting, photo booth, free food, and more while giving our newest Blugolds a chance to explore the Davies Center.

Be sure to pick up your free t-shirt at the Davies Party to wear during Flood the Mall tomorrow!

Required for all First Year Students
Transfer students are invited and encouraged to attend, but not required.

Major Meet + Greet
  • Time: 1-2:15 pm
  • Location: Locations for the Major Meet + Greet sessions will be emailed to you prior to Opening Day.

Meet faculty and staff from your major or interest group, ask questions, and explore what your future holds!

Connections – Small Group Meeting
  • Time: 2:30 pm–3:45 pm
  • Location: The location for your Connections session will be emailed to you prior to Opening Day.

Connect with fellow Blugolds and learn the ins and outs of campus life with faculty, staff and experienced students who will share their tips and tricks to help you along your college journey.

Opening Day Welcome Program
  • Time: 4–5:15 pm
  • Location: Zorn Arena, Lower Campus

The OFFICIAL welcome to UW-Eau Claire! Students will be greeted by Chancellor Jim, fellow Blugolds, and members of the administration, faculty, and staff! Keynote speaker, Odell Bizzell.

Learn more about the variety of support services offered at UWEC! Chat with representatives from campus resources, enter to win prizes, and grab a sweet treat from Ramone's Ice Cream.

Library After Dark
  • Time: 6–10 pm
  • Location: McIntyre Library, Lower Campus

Enjoy McIntyre Library’s welcome-to-campus event for all students. Score free Toppers Pizza, challenge your friends to 9 holes of mini-golf, chase others around the library in a laser tag match, and walk around a life-size version of a Clue board in full costume. There will also be a variety of live entertainment options available.

Thursday, September 5th

The CookOUT

Join new and returning LGBTQA+ students and Allies as we kick off the academic year! We know that coming to college can be intimidating all on its own, and even more so if you’re worried about finding people who are supportive and inclusive of the Queer community. Look no further! The CookOUT is designed to connect you to peers, faculty, staff, and administrators who are passionate about creating a positive (and FUN!) environment for ALL students, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. So, come say hi! Join us for free food, free games, and who knows what else!

Part-Time Job Fair
  • Time: 11 am–2 pm
  • Location: Ojibwe Ballroom, 3rd Floor Davies Center, Lower Campus

Visit the Fall 2019 Part-Time Job Fair to meet local and on-campus employers for part-time employment opportunities. Professional dress is not required. Bring copies of your resume and be prepared to complete job applications on-site as you wish. No advance registration necessary, bring your Blugold card to check-in at the event!

UW Meets EC
  • Time: 4:45–10 pm
  • Location: Shuttles begin at Towers Field, Upper Campus (Return to campus on foot)

Catch the bus outside of Towers Hall down to Phoenix Park for a walking tour of downtown Eau Claire. Many local businesses and organizations may be providing free samples, discounts, coupons, etc. Along the way, you’ll see jugglers, caricature artists, campus vocal groups, and much more. You’ll make your way to campus on Garfield Ave. where a concert will be taking place. We suggest bringing your Blugold card, and money to purchase food or t-shirts that will be printed on-site!

    • Shuttles start at Towers Field at 4:45 pm
    • Ongoing walking tour from Phoenix Park back to campus
    • More events, activities, and live music on Garfield Ave from 7 pm-9 pm

UWEC Football Game vs. Loras College
  • Time: 1:10 pm
  • Location: Carson Park

Tailgate party starts at 11:10 am at Carson Park with hotdogs and chips for the first 300 people at the game! A free shuttle will be provided from Towers Hall starting at 10:30 am.
