Gubernatorial candidates

Students at debate

More than 2,000 people crowded UW-Eau Claire's Zorn Arena Oct. 16 to hear a debate between four of Wisconsin's gubernatorial candidates: Jim Doyle, Scott McCallum, Ed Thompson and Jim Young (lefthand photo, left to right). At right, UW-Eau Claire social work majors Kristie Hanson, left, Bridget Hayes and Marcelyn Burgos listened intently to the candidates' discussion. The debate was co-sponsored by the Western Wisconsin Press Club, WisPolitics.com and UW-Eau Claire. A transcript of the debate is available at http://www.wispolitics.com/freeser/features/f0210/f02101607.html. (Photos by Shane Opatz, Eau Claire Leader-Telegram.)

More graduates staying in Wisconsin

Of the 1,849 students graduating from UW-Eau Claire in 2001, 1,345 of them are living in the state, the study indicates. Wisconsin higher education officials have stated often in recent months that the UW System is part of the solution to Wisconsin’s fiscal problems.
