The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's teaching - social studies minor prepares you to teach a variety of social sciences topics to children in grades 1-8. The minor is only for students in the College of Education and Human Sciences: Education Studies and must be combined with the elementary education major. Completion of the program qualifies you for licensure to teach general social studies in middle childhood through early adolescence classrooms.
Throughout the teaching - social studies minor, you'll learn the best ways to teach your future students civic competence. Taught by passionate, supportive faculty members, classes will explore history, geography, psychology, sociology, economics and political science. This multidisciplinary approach will surround you with different people and perspectives. It also will give you a variety of tools and effective instructional techniques to use when teaching the social sciences.
Upon graduation, you'll have the knowledge, skills and experiences necessary to help your students be successful — both in the classroom as well as out in the real world.

Classes are taught by faculty from a variety of departments, disciplines and backgrounds, giving you a rich and diverse education.
Opportunities to travel. Many UWEC education majors choose to take their learning a step further by studying abroad or enrolling in cultural immersion programming. These experiences allow you to explore history, traditions and educational practices across the globe and help you to become an informed, culturally competent educator.
Relevant student organizations. Join Aspiring Educators, History Enthusiasts of UWEC or Phi Alpha Theta - Lambda Omicron. These student-run organizations are a great way to continue your learning outside the classroom and include opportunities to build valuable professional connections, gain leadership skills and learn more about history.
