As a Pre-Med student at UW-Eau Claire, I have pursued my interest in science while building on concepts that will prepare me for medical school. The Health Careers Center has been instrumental in my success and allowed me to shadow a multitude of physicians and observe the challenging, yet rewarding, careers held by physicians.

Prepared for success

Pre-med students at UW-Eau Claire are strongly encouraged to study what they love and discover their “power of AND.” Pre-med is not an academic major, so students major where their passions lie and are encouraged to seek a well-rounded college experience. Medical schools emphasize science aptitude, and they expect good communication skills and significant health related and service experiences. UW-Eau Claire has strong programs and opportunities that help students develop these skills and get the experiences they need to meet the expectations of medical school. Courses in biology and chemistry, both very strong programs at UW-Eau Claire, are at the core of the pre-med requirements. Students also benefit from four major medical facilities in the region that provide the area with not only state-of-the-art quality health care, but also volunteer, shadowing, and job opportunities.

Graduates of UW-Eau Claire are highly successful in gaining admission to medical school. The majority of UW-Eau Claire graduates attend the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Medical College of Wisconsin, or the University of Minnesota Medical School in the Twin Cities. Others attend various private medical schools or schools of osteopathic medicine all around the country.

Get Involved / Student Orgs

Resources available through the Health Careers Center help students connect with the many opportunities on campus, in the community and around the world. UW-Eau Claire supports and strongly encourages students engaging in collaborative research with faculty scholars and incorporating research into the undergraduate experience. Additionally, UW-Eau Claire has formed strong partnerships with clinics in the community to provide students with the opportunity to take part in clinical experiences and observations. There are also a number of student organizations to join, including the UW-Eau Claire Pre-Professional Health Club, a very active student organization for those interested in a medical career. These organizations engage in volunteer work and social events and tour graduate programs in the region.
